FAQs
What services do you offer as an interior designer?
I provide full service interior design, including space planning, material, fixture and fittings specification, and furniture and décor procurement for renovations, extensions and new builds. Whether you're refreshing a single room or redesigning your entire home or office, each project is tailored to suit your lifestyle and taste.
I also provide initial design consultations, both in person and via video call, for projects that don’t require full service interior design. This is ideal for people keen to DIY smaller projects that don’t require building permits or planning approvals.
Do you work on residential or commercial projects?
I specialise in residential interiors, from apartments to multi‑generational living. I also work on commercial spaces such as offices, cafés and retail stores. With my registration from the Victorian Building Authority (Building Designer – Interior), my documentation drawings can be submitted to council or building surveyors for approvals.
Not all interior designers have the same qualifications or level of education, and my pricing reflects the expert advice and compliant documentation I provide.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENGAGING A FULLY QUALIFIED and registered INTERIOR DESIGNER?
As a fully qualified and registered interior designer, I can discuss and instruct builders and tradespeople working on homes and commercial spaces. I have access to quality suppliers and builders to ensure your renovation is as unique as you are.
Engaging a registered interior designer means the builder will use my documentation and drawings as part of their contract, and you can obtain building insurance, an important protection for the consumer.
How does the design process work?
Starting with a discovery call or consultation to understand your needs, I then work through my seven‑step process: developing a concept, presenting mood boards, finishes and design documentation, and refining the concept with your feedback before sending all information to tender.
Then the fun begins onsite, such a fabulous part of the process. I thoroughly enjoy being involved during this stage to assist clients and builders in implementing the design intent.
How much does interior design cost?
For renovations, extensions, new homes or commercial spaces, pricing depends on the scope of work required and the complexity of the design solutions needed.
If you’re looking for a kick start to your project, I recommend booking a two‑hour consultation to clarify your ideas and establish a plan for the next steps.
wHat should I expect during the initial design consultation?
During our two‑hour initial design consultation, you can expect a comprehensive discussion about your requirements, goals and budget. I will take high‑level measurements, photos, and ask questions about how you wish to use the space and your lifestyle. Please be open and honest so we can build a strong and transparent working relationship, it’s the perfect foundation for the project ahead.
While no drawings or documentation will be provided at this stage, you may request a fee proposal for further work if you need more detail than the consultation notes.
HOW CAN I ENSURE MY INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT REFLECTS MY PERSONAL STYLE?
During the initial consultation, it is valuable to bring research in the form of images from books or magazines that show spaces and items you like and dislike. Throughout the process, I will uncover much about your lifestyle, preferences and style. I also share a questionnaire early in the process to help prompt our design conversations. This forms part of the return brief I provide after engagement of full service interior design.
It’s important to think long term while also considering what you genuinely love. Try not to be influenced too heavily by current trends; instead, consider colour, form and materiality that reflect your needs and goals. Combining heirloom or vintage pieces with new items creates a unique contemporary blend that reflects you, your family or your brand.
How long does a typical project take?
Timelines vary based on complexity and project type. For example, a residential renovation or new build can take up to three years from the initial briefing meeting to handover due to the design work, documentation and approvals required. Commercial projects are typically faster and often completed within 12 months.
Do you help with furniture and decor procurement?
Yes. I source from leading international and local craftspeople, wholesalers and retail showrooms, accessing trade only pricing ranging from 5%–35%. I love incorporating your existing heirloom pieces to give your space a personal touch, and I document these in an existing furniture schedule with dimensions and other relevant details.
To obtain trade pricing, a procurement fee is charged to the client (10% of the total spend). This fee is separate from the design fee.
