Copenhagen from Afar: A Designer’s Glimpse into 3daysofdesign
I tuned into this year’s 3daysofdesign from my studio in Melbourne, tea in hand and sketchbook nearby. While I wasn't there in person, the atmosphere somehow still spilled through the screen; creative, calm, and full of intention. It was a reminder that even across time zones, thoughtful design has the power to connect us. A handful of studios really stood out, not just for their work but for the emotions their pieces evoked:
Furn Object: Each piece felt like a punctuation mark in a room; bold, expressive, and unapologetically artistic. From Ukraine, this brand is one to watch. I first came across their Liquid table a few years ago, this piece is sculptural, harmonising fluidity with refined form. It features three organically shaped circular surfaces set at varying heights, its subtly textured finish and delicate metallic legs evoke a sense of softness and movement.
Atelier Matic: Delicate, restrained, and poetic. Their work felt like a whisper rather than a shout, with an elegance that lingered after the scroll. Japanese based studio creating pieces using everyday materials and celebrating daily life, the Flower Shade caught my eye, it was danty and gorgegous.
Studio About: They play with colour and transparency like it's second nature. Their lighting brought a soft joy, like the feeling of sunlight catching glass on a still afternoon. Colouful and experimental life, this Danish brand is full of fun, their original pieces were hanging glass vases, however be sure to look at their poufs 'Float' or paper flowers.
Fucina Frammenti: I’m a sucker for craftsmanship, and their work felt like a love letter to materiality. It's refined and refreshingly real. Based in Venice, turning waste into objects, what's not to love? There is much talk about sustainability in building, and up to 30% of our buildings are furniture and/ or lighting, so let's aim to be more responsible and choose sustainable or second hand. The lovely Gemma pendant below:
Nuura: Founded in 2017, Nuura has cultivated a reputation for crafting lighting that transcends function, evoking serenity and sensory calm. Their 2025 showcase explored the intersection of design and wellbeing, featuring breathwork sessions, ritual inspired mornings, and restorative tea ceremonies. The collection itself served as a gentle backdrop to these experiences; with its warm, diffuse glow inviting moments of quiet reflection and mindful connection.
&Tradition: True to their name, they bridge past and present with ease. There's something deeply grounding in how they approach legacy, reminding me why we revisit, reuse, and reimagine. A friend works at this incredible store in Denmark, a favourite for classic and not so classic design.
Frama: One of my favourite brands champions everyday rituals through a collection that spans furniture, lighting, self-care, and kitchen essentials. Each piece reflects a minimalist philosophy, shaped by natural textures and sculptural purity. Their recent showcase celebrated modularity in living, not just through design, but through experience; inviting guests to share a meal, continue the conversation, and immerse themselves fully in the brand’s ethos.
From my studio in Melbourne, I found space to pause and absorb. It reminded me that design isn’t about being seen; it’s about seeing, feeling, and connecting. That kind of resonance can happen just as deeply from afar as it can in the heart of Copenhagen with thanks to 21st century technology.
I’m thrilled to share that in 2027, I’ll be experiencing the festival in person, traveling with my family to embrace the culture, rhythm, and spirited energy of this remarkable city. I'm looking forward to rediscovering this magical city as well as a few new locations such as Hillerød known for the majestic Frederiksborg Castle. It’s like stepping into a fairytale, with cobbled streets and a quiet charm.
And the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, what a sensory feast.
I can just see myself now, riding a bike, hair flowing in the breeze, eating smørrebrød, it's going to be magical!
